  Recipe for Success:

We at Jackson Elementary believe that all children can learn. Our mission is to provide opportunities for students to learn skills, acquire knowledge, and develop character within a diverse, nurturing learning environment.

  • Teachers in all grades use A Blueprint for Learning: A Teacher's Guide to the Tennessee Curriculum. This guide makes the curriculum more accessible to classroom teachers. All grades for each content area are provided in the same manual. The skills within each grade are identified as to whether they are introduced, developed, or have been mastered and are being maintained at that level. The skills correlating with the state criterion referenced test (CRT) are also identified for classroom instruction.
  • Teachers have a common planning time of 45-minutes three days per week. Teachers plan and work together to improve school-wide student achievement through curriculum integration across content areas and grade levels.
  • Students are taught reading during a 120 minute uninterrupted reading block. This curriculum follows the balanced literacy approach. Reading First and Universal Literacy is implemented in grades K-3. Selected K-3 students receive the Voyager Intervention Program during the day 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week.
  • Students are taught Math for 75 minutes daily. Math ensures differentiated instruction by offering content, resources, and technology that speak to all types of learners simultaneously. Intervention strategies are planned for deficiencies. The Extended Contract is an after-school tutoring program for grades 3-6, 3 days per week, and an hour and one half each day.
  • Students are provided a wide range of technology to enhance the curriculum.
  • We communicate with parents via the web, newsletters written in Spanish and English, informational fairs, and conferences.
  • All teachers are highly qualified. Teachers are involved in professional development throughout the year.
  • Data is used to drive instruction.
  • Assessment instruments are used to evaluate progress. Predetermined intervals are weekly, six weeks, semester and yearly.

There is still plenty of room for improvement and much work to be done.
